First limited to Military use as a tactical aerial scouting tool, they are now finding their sweet spot in commercial use applications coming in different weights, shapes and sizes. These flying robots were built to displace hard work and reducing all the complexities in various work environments in to just a push of a joystick and a click of a button.

The UAV industry in PNG is relatively new and unchartered, which means that training by reputable companies who have any experience in the country is currently lacking. The general public, private and govt entities need education in terms of the laws, safety and the general use and operation of the UAV’s.
Aspiring drone professionals are aware that they need to travel overseas to undertake any in depth training so they can learn and follow proper techniques such as understanding weather, rules & regulations around populated areas, night flights, emergency procedures and most importantly air traffic.
For the professional who would like to take his/her career further in this field, the likelihood of progressing as an individual is very limited.
There are only a handful of licensed drone pilots in PNG and this is something we look to change and grow so that PNG can be at the forefront of this new technology and maximise to its full potential.
